Grant Applications

The BLC Foundation distributes grants that further the vision, mission and values of Bethlehem Lutheran Church Twin Cities.

Alive Together: A New Creation in Christ

We strive to be a new creation by being Known, Challenged, and Sent.

The five values shape our work with like-minded Nonprofit Organizations:

  1. Radical Hospitality

  2. Whole-Hearted Worship

  3. Christ-Centered Relationships

  4. Compassionate Service

  5. Transformational Generosity

A requirement for nonprofit applications is a current, functioning connection to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Twin Cities/Spirit Garage community through the volunteer efforts of church members. For instance, a qualifying organization is supported by BLCTC/SG members who volunteer regularly at the nonprofit. This might be once a month, once a week, or several times a year - depending upon the nonprofit, its needs and its services. An active volunteer will then be a “sponsor” for the nonprofit, helping tell its story for the needs of the grant through the application process.

All grant applications are due March 15th, June 15th, September 15th, and December 15th. Applications can be submitted at any time to be considered at the next quarterly board meeting.

Applicants will be informed of the decision following the quarterly Foundation Board of Directors meetings held in the latter part of January, April, July and October.

Since the beginning of the Bethlehem Foundation, supporting seminarians has been a priority. In fact, the first grants made were $100 to each of six seminary students in 1963. Active members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church Twin Cities or Spirit Garage are eligible to apply for tuition assistance. The amount is determined each year by the Bethlehem Foundation. In 2026-2027 it is $12,000/year.

Grant applications are due June 15th for the next academic year; however, applications can be submitted at any time to be considered for a partial year grant.

With recent changes to how the Bethlehem Foundation supports Bethlehem Lutheran Church Twin Cities, members of BLCTC and Spirit Garage staff should discuss their idea for a Foundation Grant with the Executive Director before submitting the application. All grant applications for a potential discretionary grant are due March 15th, June 15th, September 15th, and December 15th. Applications can be submitted at any time to be considered at the next quarterly board meeting.
